Kate Smart - Head of Resourcing
After studying Marketing at university, I moved abroad for a couple of years and then realised it was time to grow up and get a proper job. I moved to London where I soon became an Operations Manager in hospitality. After 5 years or so of a lot of fun I thought, I really should get a ‘proper’ proper job now! So that’s when I ‘fell’ into recruitment. I worked for a large corporate recruitment company for a few years as a Senior Consultant within Accountancy & Finance where I honed my skills, understanding the finance sector and focussing on finding the right person for the right role.
My husband and I moved to Northampton, at which point I started my own firm, James-Mann Associates. Recruiting predominately within finance roles, but also other sectors including Administration and Marketing. I ran this successfully for four years whilst having my two children. I was then approached by Elsby & Co to help with their internal recruitment. Elsby were experiencing growth and wanted to bring this in-house. My role soon began to grow; I look after all internal recruitment, mergers & acquisitions, training & development and we also offer an outsourced recruitment service to clients looking to strengthen their own teams - so I am a very busy lady.
Working at Elsby is extremely rewarding but challenging in a great way. Developing teams and watching the impact it has on the business gives me a huge sense of pride. Knowing that a business is only as good as it’s people drives me on to make sure all of our staff continue developing to be the best that they can be.
