As a family-run firm, we make sure that our team is happy and relaxed, they work hard, but they enjoy coming in every day to do it. It’s this culture that has meant we are able to retain staff as well as attract the best talent out there.

Our clients know that they can speak with a Trainee or a Client Manager and get an approachable and professional response, building up a rapport and an excellent foundation for a working relationship.

How do we get the best from our people?

We train in all areas of accounts because we want our clients to be able to speak to any of our team and get the answer to their question. No departments, no ‘it’s not my job’ culture, we ensure that only accessible and reliable information is provided by us. This is a little outside the norm for an accountancy practice, but it works and it works well.

We invest heavily in training and development. We see it as a fundamental responsibility to our staff to make them the best that they can be. This not only makes for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team but very happy clients too.

Internal technical training is completed monthly with seminars using an external expert (for all levels of staff).

We also encourage our staff to be looking at other courses they feel would benefit them and support the cost and time of attending these.

Business skills training - for example, commercial awareness, train to train, leadership training, and social media - is regularly delivered by internal and external resources.

We believe that if you give people the right tools and support they can develop in all areas, making them well-rounded accountants AND business people. If someone excels in a particular area and enjoys it, again we nurture this talent and champion them to further develop their skills and knowledge.

We care and support staff just as much as we do our clients, as we fully understand that the business would not be what it is without them. If you are struggling, we want to know, and if there are challenges you have yet to face professionally, we will support you.

Equally, it’s also important to us that we reward and congratulate the team on their successes. We have a marketing ‘Star of the Month’ award, and incentivise in other areas including new business referrals and recruitment.

We also have regular social events and are often found at the local pub at lunchtime (on soft drinks of course) to continue developing our positive relationship.
