New PAYE help for employees
The Taxman has set up a new telephone number which employed people can call for help with their tax. The new single number - 0845 300 0627 - replaces more than 60 existing 0845 numbers!
As an employer you can use the number too; for example to confirm an employee's tax code. But you should continue to call the Employer Helpline (08457 143 143) for advice on running the payroll.
TIP. Send an email to all your employees advising them of the new number to call with PAYE queries. Hopefully this should cut down on the volume that you have to deal with. Also update any guidance to employees, so that references to phoning the "tax office" only quote this number.
